Varifocal

A completely natural phenomenon, presbyopia occurs as our eyes lose elasticity as we grow older. The process begins in childhood, but around age 40 many of us begin to experience difficulty in reading and in performing other close-up tasks. Choosing the best lens for correcting presbyopia is an individual decision based on your particular needs.

There are three main choices for correcting presbyopia. The first is single vision reading glasses. These will make close-up things clear, but to focus clearly on anything further away you will have to remove them or look over the top of them.

The second option is bifocals. These will give you clear close up and distance vision, but they will have a visible bifocal line on the lens which many people don't like from a cosmetic point of view, and they will not correct for intermediate distances which can be annoying for example when using a computer or looking at prices on supermarket shelves.

The third and most modern option is varifocal lenses, also known as progressive lenses. They give complete vision at all distances, without the telltale dividing line of bifocals. Varifocal Lenses look just like a single vision lens, but there is a gradual power difference within the lens, from distance at the top, down to reading. The area in the middle of the lens is your intermediate area, for focusing on things at mid range eg a computer. Clear lenses

Standard (1.50 Index)

Much lighter and safer than traditional glass lenses, all Kodak Lenses are now produced from plastic materials and most come with a scratch resistant coating as standard.

Thin & Lite (1.56, 1.6, 1.67, 1.74 Index)

Modern chemistry has allowed us to develop new plastic materials and designs resulting in thinner and lighter lenses. Better looking and more comfortable to wear.

Thin & Lite Polycarbonate (1.59 Index)

Made from polycarbonate, these lenses are impact resistant and ten times stronger than standard plastic making them ideal for sports, children, safety glasses and rimless frames.

Sun lenses

Sun Tints (1.50 Index)

A choice of five great colours and tinting depths means that you can have a different look for each mood. From deep sunglasses tints to lighter cosmetic tints, the colour can be the same depth all over the lens or can be graduated from dark at the top to clear at the bottom of the lens. Tints can be further enhanced with UV protection.

UVSun Polarised (1.50 Index)

Available in five fashionable colours these are the ultimate in sun protection. The polarised function virtually eliminates glare, making them perfect for water activities, driving or winter sports.

Thin & Lite SunSensors™ (1.56 Index)

A classic photochromic lens. When you are outside in the sun they are dark and they fade to clear when you return indoors. Available in a choice of grey or brown, and made of 1.56 Thin & Lite material so up to 30% thinner and 32% lighter than standard lenses, with RLX Plus®, the world’s most scratch resistant plastic lens surface included as standard.

Thin & Lite InstaShades (1.6 Index)

New generation fast- reacting photochromic, darkening more quickly than traditional photochromic lenses and fading back to clear even more quickly. They give you 100% UV protection and are available in a choice of grey or brown. They are made of 1.6 Thin & Lite material so are up to 36% thinner and 40% lighter than standard lenses, with RLX Plus®, the world’s most scratch resistant plastic lens surface included as standard for added protection.
